Appropriately named "Mame" (the Japanese word for "bean"), this 1 Sun size creation is the smallest puzzle box crafted in the Hakone region. Achieving a fully functional mechanism in such a tiny frame requires extraordinary skill. Master artisan Hiroyuki Oka handcrafts and thoroughly tests each of these eco-friendly miniatures to ensure flawless precision.
Don't let its tiny size fool you. This miniature puzzle box houses a clever 14-step sequential mechanism. Utilizing 4 moving panels and no keys, the box opens little by little in a logical, straightforward order. It offers an accessible yet highly satisfying challenge for any mechanical puzzle enthusiast.
The aesthetics are just as impressive as the mechanics. The side panels are crafted from smooth, natural Ho wood (Magnolia). The top and bottom feature classic Yosegi-zaiku marquetry. Because the marquetry is applied entirely by hand, the intricate patterns vary from box to box, making your miniature puzzle a completely unique collector's item (designs will differ from the photos).
