A New Perspective on a Classic Mechanism

Created in February 2026 by master craftsman Hiroshi Iwahara, this piece breathes new life into the beloved "Aquarius Drawer" mechanism. By modifying the size, renaming the concept, and selecting a fresh palette of woods, Iwahara has crafted a distinct puzzle box that appeals to both new enthusiasts and seasoned collectors.

The Fractal Concept

The inspiration for this puzzle is loosely drawn from fractals—geometric shapes that echo themselves at various scales. While the physical wooden pieces do not change size, the way the five linked sliders move is inherently recursive. Certain parts of the mechanism correspond to deeper, hidden layers, giving the box its unique and captivating character.

A Rewarding 61-Step Journey

Unlocking this puzzle is an exercise in sequential logic. The synchronized movement of the sliders will reveal the first hidden storage space on the 5th move. However, to fully master the box and access the second drawer, you must decipher the pattern and continue sliding all the way to the 61st move.
