Available in excellent pre-owned condition, the Tricolor Box is a testament to Hiroshi Iwahara's reputation as a master engineer. Often referred to as a "Combination Drawer," this puzzle box operates like a logic lock. By manipulating three sliding panels, each displaying a sequence of colors, you must find the correct permutation to release the three separate drawers.

Hidden Engineering

While the exterior is beautiful—blending Walnut, Padauk, and Wenge with acrylic accents—the true magic lies deep inside. Building upon the concept of the "Three Color Dango," Iwahara developed a completely new internal gimmick. Complex linkages allow the moving plates to communicate with the drawer locks seamlessly. As the creator himself notes, the mechanism inside is perhaps even more fascinating than the solution itself, yet it remains a secret known only to him.
