A truly special milestone piece: this is the very first creation by craftsman Taisho Iwasaki for the Karakuri Creation Group (KCG). It is a stunning, sculptural puzzle box shaped like a rhinoceros beetle resting on a wooden base.
The rhinoceros beetle (Kabutomushi) is an iconic symbol of summer in Japan. For craftsman Taisho Iwasaki, this insect holds a lot of personal nostalgia, as he raised several different types of them during his youth. He created this specific Karakuri box out of his deep love for the creature, simply stating, "Rhinoceros beetles are so cool."
Created in August 2026, the "KABUTO BOX" marks Iwasaki's highly anticipated debut in the KCG. He poured his dedication and hard work into this piece, designing a clever mechanism integrated into the beetle's anatomy, hoping it will be cherished by puzzle enthusiasts worldwide.
Visually, this box is a magnificent display piece. The beetle itself is meticulously crafted from dark, rich rosewood, creating a beautiful contrast against the lighter, rectangular Keyaki (Zelkova) wood base. By interacting with the beetle, you must discover the sequence to access the small hidden storage compartment tucked away inside.
