A magnificent celebration of Japanese cultural icons crafted by the esteemed Izumiya workshop. This generously sized 5 Sun puzzle box secures its interior behind a demanding 21-step mechanism and breathtaking dual marquetry.
Note: This pre-owned item has been carefully preserved and comes complete with its original box and solution manual.
The exterior of this Himitsu-bako is a triumph of Zougan (figurative marquetry). The front panel showcases a majestic view of Mount Fuji in warm, reddish woods, set against stylized clouds. Turn the box around, and you are greeted by a deeply poetic scene: a traditional folding fan adorned with Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) and gently falling petals. These beautiful wooden canvases are framed perfectly by the classic Asanoha (hemp leaf) geometric pattern on the side panels.
Opening the central compartment reveals a distinct red hexagonal stamp reading "MADE IN JAPAN". This is the hallmark of the Izumiya workshop, a clear indicator of the box's authenticity and the high-quality craftsmanship synonymous with the Hakone woodworking tradition.
Beneath its artistic exterior lies a true mechanical brainteaser. Unlocking the hidden space requires absolute focus, demanding a strict, logical sequence of 21 sliding panel movements. The meticulous construction ensures that every wooden rail glides smoothly, providing a highly rewarding tactile solving experience.
